  1. In a large mixing bowl, add chicken with garlic, Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, salt, white pepper, garlic powder, five spice powder, chicken bouillon powder, sugar, oil, and egg for a minimum of 30 minutes.

  1. Dredge each piece of chicken in the sweet potato flour until evenly coated throughout.
  2. Grease the air fryer basket with neutral oil and place the chicken in a single layer working in batches to prevent crowding. Then brush the chicken with more neutral oil.
  1. Air fry the chicken at 360°F (182°C) for 10 minutes. Flip the chicken and increase the temperature to 400°F (200°C) then brush more oil and cook for an additional 5-7 more minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  • Marinate the chicken for at least 30 minutes. The longer you marinate the chicken the more time the chicken has to soak in the flavors for a more flavorful and tasty chicken. You can marinate the chicken for up to 24 hours.
  • Use enough oil. Whether you are using a cooking oil spray or brushing the chicken with regular oil, make sure that you coat the air fryer basket and both sides of the chicken for the chicken to brown and become crispy.
  • Do not overcrowd the basket. Make sure to line the chicken in a single layer in the air fryer basket where the chicken is not touching each other. You will need to work in batches.
  • Add the fried basil at the end. When air-fried, the basil leaves will become really fragile and brittle. Serve at the end instead of tossing it with the chicken for best results.
