Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking tray with a slip mat or parchment paper.
Create the dough. In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer bowl with paddle attachment, add the wheat flour, eggs, pumpkin puree, peanut butter, salt, cinnamon, water, and honey. Mix together on medium speed until combined.
Roll and cut. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your dough to be about 1/2 inch thick. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the treats. Continue to roll and cut until all the dough is used.
Bake. Place the cut treats on a baking tray. They do not spread or rise so you can place them close to each other. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until crisp and the edges are golden brown. Let it cool completely on a wire rack.
Frosting
Combine peanut butter and honey. In a microwavable bowl, add the peanut butter, and honey and microwave for 15 seconds or until melted.
Add cornstarch. Add the cornstarch and mix until combined.
Add water. Next, add the hot water one tablespoon at a time until the mixture thickens.
Pipe. Add the frosting to a piping bag and pipe the designs on the dog treats.
Notes
Check your dog’s allergies! Dogs may have different allergies to any of these ingredients. Make sure to have a vet test your dog for allergies before feeding your dog these treats.
Check Peanut Butter for Xylitol. Some peanut butter brands may include xylitol as a sugar alternative. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs. Use natural peanut butter that only has two ingredients such as peanut butter and honey.
Honey: Honey may be dangerous to immunocompromised dogs or puppies under 1 year who haven’t received all of their shots yet.
Roll and cut until there’s no more dough left. This dog biscuits recipe can yield a lot of treats depending on the size of your cookie cutter. Continue to roll and cut your dough until there is none left!
Bake until crisp! Since these are homemade dog treats and not human cookies, I recommend baking them until they are golden brown and crisp to the touch so they are crunchy for your pup.
Storage Instructions: You can store these pumpkin and peanut butter dog treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 months or in the freezer for up to 8 months.
