Ingredients

  • 2 cups sticky rice aka sweet rice, or glutinous rice
  • water

Instructions

  • Measure the rice. Add the sticky rice to a mixing bowl or other deep container. Fill it with water so that the water level is at least 2 inches above the rice, as the rice will expand when soaking.
  • Soak the rice. Soak for a minimum of 4 hours and up to 24 hours. If you are soaking the rice overnight, cover and place it in the refrigerator.
  • Prepare the steamer. Line your steamer with either a heat-proof, rimmed plate, natural steamer liners, or parchment paper. Then, drain the water, and evenly arrange the soaked sticky rice on your steamer.
  • Steam. Cover and steam over medium-high heat for 30-40 minutes or until fluffy. Do not open the steamer for the first 30 minutes.
  • Serve. Open the lid and be careful, the steam will come up quickly. Serve immediately.
