Ingredients

  • 1 Orange
  • 2 Kiwis
  • 10 Strawberries
  • 4 Milk Bread Slices
  • 1 cup Heavy Whipping Cream Cold
  • 4 teaspoon Granulated Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla

Instructions

  • Prep the fruit. Remove the core of strawberries, peeled and cut the kiwis in half, and carefully peeled the skin off of the oranges.
  • Dry the fruit completely. Using paper towels, pat dry the fruit to remove any excess moisture from the fruit.
  • Make the whipped cream. Take the whipping cream out of the refrigerator and immediately pour in a mixing bowl and using an electric mixer, whisk on low speed.
  • Sweeten the whipped cream. Once bubbly add the sugar and vanilla and whisk at a higher speed until the cream thickens.
  • Once it’s thick, you can hand whisk until you reach the desired consistency. The cream should have stiff peaks and spreadable consistency. Make sure to not over whisk it will curdle.
  • Assemble the sandwich. Spread the whipped cream on one slice of bread Then align the fruit on that same slice. I wanted to cut my sandwich diagonally so I laid the fruit down on both diagonals like an X and then filled in the gaps to make an even layer of fruit.
  • Top the fruit with more whip cream to fill the gaps. Lay the second slice of bread on top.
  • Freeze the sandwich to make the slicing easier. Wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap and use a permanent marker to mark the way you plan to slice the fruit. Place the sandwich between two plates and freeze for 30 minutes or in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
  • If desired, slice off the crust and slice down the middle of the sandwich.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • Think ahead and plan out the way you want the fruit to look when you slice before making the sandwich. The way you want to slice the sandwich will determine how you place the fruit onto the sandwich.
  • Wipe off excess water from the fruit to prevent the sandwich from being too runny.
  • Try to use the same-sized fruits for an even layered sandwich.
  • Wrap the sandwich tightly with plastic wrap and weigh down the sandwich before you slice.
  • Draw on the plastic wrap with a permanent marker to remember how you planned out the cut.
  • Use a clean sharp knife in between each slice to not muddy your fruit with whipped cream.
  • Storage Instructions: This Japanese fruit sandwich is best enjoyed right away. You can also wrap the sandwich in plastic wrap and store it in the refrigerator overnight before cutting the sandwich in half.
